Taji 10 takes the reins

Outgoing Task Group Taji 9 Commander Colonel Michael Bassingthwaighte has formally handed command to incoming Commander Colonel Nick Foxall during a Transfer of Authority parade at the Taji Military Complex near Baghdad.

Task Group Taji 10 Commander Foxall said the incoming rotation was well prepared and looking forward to maintaining the high standards set by the previous task group.

“We are taking the reins from the previous Task Group Taji rotations who have been instrumental in the development of the Iraqi School of Infantry Non-Commissioned Officer II (SINCO II) training establishment,” Colonel Foxall said.

“Our mission will build upon TGT 9’s work and we’ll continue to develop the capability of SINCO II with mentors focused on guidance rather than hands on training,” he said.

Task Group Taji 9 achieved a significant milestone when it helped SINCO II achieve full operational capability in November.

Task Group Taji 10, through the new School Mentoring Team, will focus on building institutional capacity at SINCO II which will enhance facilities and develop self-regulation.

“The leadership from SINCO II enabled a successful transition from Australian and New Zealand-led training to Iraqi-run and this has also cemented our position as a capable training force,” Colonel Foxall said.

“Without the relationships our predecessors have developed over the last 10 rotations we would not have seen the success we have achieved so far.”

Task Group Taji is part of the ADF’s Build Partner Capacity mission on Operation OKRA. Operation OKRA is the Australian commitment to the US-led Operation Inherent Resolve, the military intervention against the terrorist group Daesh.
