Submariners help with Covid-19

Submarine Force personnel at Fleet Base West are stepping up to do their bit to assist Operation COVID-19 Assist.

Warrant Officer Tony O’Rielly said 10 Submarine Force members had been deployed to support the task force throughout Western Australia.

“Being one of the first groups of Navy personnel in Western Australia to be assigned to this role has been exciting and challenging,” Warrant Officer O’Rielly said.

“All the people here are keen to contribute to the national effort to flatten the curve of the spread of coronavirus.”

Leading Seaman Christian Thom was one of the other personnel assisting in Western Australia.

“It wasn’t how I was expecting to spend my day a few weeks ago, but I am happy to do my part as a service person to help,” Leading Seaman Thom said.

“It certainly shows that life in the services is never dull, that’s for sure.”
