Barefoot bowls in the Top End

Members of HMAS Coonawarra and its resident units went head to head in the 2021 Top End Forces Shield barefoot bowls competition in Darwin on March 16.

As part of this year’s sporting calendar, the event displayed teamwork, sportsmanship and unbridled athleticism.

Coonawarra Leading Seaman Personal Training Instructor Jesse Pinto, who coordinated, refereed and commentated the event, said he was pleased with the turnout, participation and barracking.

“It is well documented that workplaces involved in regular sporting competitions experience improved teamwork, reduced stress and greater productivity,” Leading Seaman Pinto said.

“This event was a great opportunity to bring our people closer together and really enjoy some of the best competitive sports that Darwin has to offer.”

The competition came down to a close sudden-death grand finale with the Crew Support and Reading Group – North Starboard team closely beating the Fleet C3 Darwin team, Holy Rollers.
